The Foreign Office has warned Brits to avoid an area in central Paris after a blast injured more than 30 people.
The explosion occurred in a building that housed a design school and the Catholic education system headquarters in the fifth arrondissement of the French capital.
Among the 37 people who were injured, four have severe injuries.
Emergency workers are searching through the wreckage, looking for two people who are thought to be missing.
The Foreign Office said: “On 21 June, an explosion and large fire occurred in the 5th Arrondissement in central Paris.
“Avoid the area and follow the advice of local authorities. If you require consular support, call the British Consulate in Paris on +33 (0)1 44 51 31 00.”
Local deputy mayor Edouard Civel said on social media the cause was a ‘gas explosion’, according to the BBC.
But authorities said the cause of the blast has not yet been determined.
The building, which is a 20-minute walk from Notre Dame, one of city’s major tourist attractions, was initially engulfed by flames before the blaze was later brought under control.
