British travellers have been warned about widespread flooding and hazardous weather conditions caused by an ongoing storm in Southern California.
The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its advice to warn of ‘widespread flooding in Southern California, which is forecast to bring hazardous sea and weather conditions until Wednesday 7 February.
The flooding is particularly concentrated in San Bernadino, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties. At least three people have died in the storm.
The FCDO said: “Visitors and residents should monitor the weather forecast and follow advice and guidance from local authorities, particularly around evacuation orders, road closures, power outages, and what to do in the event of potential contamination of drinking water.”
British Nationals in the area should follow California’s Office of Emergency Services, The Federal Emergency Management Agency Region Nine and the US National Weather Service.
For Los Angeles City and County, visitors should check the ReadyLA website for advice and to sign up to local emergency alerts.
The FCDO added: “During and in the aftermath of an intense storm there can be flooding, high winds and continued rainfall. See the extreme weather guidance page for further advice on what to expect and how to prepare.”
