The Foreign Office has warned air travel to and from the US east coast may be disrupted because of poor air quality.
Prevailing wind from dozens of wildfires currently burning across Canada has pushed smoke from several large ones in Ontario and Quebec across the US border.
The FCDO said: “Smoke from wildfires in Canada is currently causing poor air quality across parts of the east coast.
“You should check AirNow.gov for updates on the current air quality in your location and follow the advice given by the US authorities, including wearing a face mask to protect yourself.
“Air travel may also be disrupted. You should check the status of your flight with your airline before travelling.”
The US Federal Aviation Administration lifted a ground stop for flights coming into New York’s LaGuardia airport yesterday, but ongoing smoke issues have continued to cause delays.
MailOnline reported flights at LaGuardia were delayed for nearly two hours, with flights at Newark Airport being grounded for around 82 minutes.
Travellers at Philadelphia Airport were facing 29 minute delays.
