The Foreign Office has warned of travel disruption across the May Day weekend amid ongoing protests in France over pension reforms and ahead of the upcoming Border Force strikes.
For the past month, more than a million people have taken to the streets of Paris and other French cities to protest about the pension age rising.
The Foreign Office said trade unions have announced ‘large scale demonstrations and co-ordinated industrial action’ on 1 May.
Multiple sectors will be affected including transport networks.
The travel alert said: “Industrial action may start the evening before the strike day and run for several days.
“You should monitor the media, check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”
Travellers attempting to cross the Channel are likely to face difficulties on Friday 28 April due to strike action by Border Force, said the Foreign Office.
“There may be delays when travelling from France, including Calais, Dunkirk and/ or the Channel Tunnel,” the Foreign Office said.
It advised travellers to check with their travel provider before setting off.
