The Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel information for France after the stabbing of a number of people in Arras in the north of the country, one of whom died.

The attacker was detained and police are advising people to stay away from the area around the Lycée Gambetta in the city where the incident occurred on Friday 13 October.

The FCDO said: “France has now raised its national threat level to the highest level (‘Emergency’).

“This threat level is described as ‘maximum vigilance and protection in the event of an imminent threat of a terrorist act or in the immediate aftermath of an attack’.”

However, the FCDO has not changed its general advice for travel to France and there is no warning against visiting the country.
