G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip has launched a global search for a man and his girlfriend after he was filmed allegedly carving their names into the wall of Rome’s ancient Colosseum.

And he says if ‘Ivan + Hayley’ are found he will invite them to travel with him to Peru to attend G Adventures’ inaugural community travel summit.

He will also give a free ticket to the summit to anyone who helps him reach the pair as a reward.

Italy’s Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano called for the man who used a key to carve into the Colosseum to be ‘identified and sanctioned’.

In a tweet on Monday, he said: “I consider it a very serious, unworthy and a sign of great incivility that a tourist defaces one of the most famous places in the world a historical heritage such as the Colosseum, to carve the name of his fiancée.

“I hope that whoever carried out this act will be identified and sanctioned according to our laws.”

It’s the fourth case of vandalism at the Colosseum so far this year, according to reports.

Bruce said: “While it’s shocking to see anyone deface an ancient landmark like the Colosseum, it’s not as uncommon as many would think.

“When filming The Last Tourist (responsible travel documentary produced by Bruce) we captured footage of tourists behaving in the most unconscious ways, from spray painting landmarks to bragging about destroying 6,000 year old rock formations.”

“Unfortunately, travellers often suspend the values they abide by at home the moment they step on a plane, and it’s this mindset that needs to change.

“Rather than condemning Ivan and Hayley, I’m launching an appeal to find them, and to invite them to GX, G Adventures’ inaugural annual community travel summit, which is taking place in September in Peru.

“At this industry-wide event they’ll have the opportunity to experience the concept of community tourism first-hand, and to learn the value of protecting the destinations they visit.”

Bruce has launched his search for Ivan + Hayley via the press and social media. Anyone with any information can contact him on media@gadventures.com
