G Adventures has launched a solo brand, with 13 itineraries on sale from today.

UK Managing Director Brian Young said the operator wanted to cater for the growing number of single travellers booking its tours, who would like more opportunity to quickly bond with other people on the trip.

The operator says the brand, called Solo-ish Adventures, is different from other options for solo travellers because it builds in ice-breaker experiences during the first few days that are designed to get people connecting quickly.

All guests will be met at the airport with a private transfer to their hotel. Then, on day one, there will be a cookery class that everyone can participate in and ‘enjoy the fruits of their labour together’. Day two involves ‘making meaningful connections’, such as a visit to a local community, while on day three will be a ‘special’ experience ‘that will bring the group together’.

After that, there will be a ‘me’ day, designed for people to have some me time if they wish.

Brian said: “We have seen a huge movement in more mature solo travellers. More than 50% of our global travellers are solo travellers. Some are happy to travel on our usual G Adventures tours as a solo traveller, but they could be travelling with other couples, friends, etc and that might take some time for that connection to be made.

“The idea is: ‘Travel for yourself, not by yourself’. The first three days are a really important part of bonding, but it’s also important to build a ‘me’ day into the itinerary. Everyone’s talking about solo travellers, but this brand is going one step further and creating a community of solo travellers.

Thirteen trips are on sale from today (Tuesday 8 October), with destinations including South Africa, Peru, Vietnam, India and Costa Rica. More options will be added to create a total of 25 itineraries in time for the programme start in spring 2025.

Accommodation will be in shared rooms for two but people can book their own room at a 50% discount.

Trips can be booked for anyone over 18, but Brian said the brand is expected to attract more mature travellers of around 40-45 years. It’s expected there will be more women on the solo tours than men, and each tour will be led by a female Chief Experience Officer (CEO).

G Adventures will run training for agents and has created assets so they can explain the key points on how Solo-ish Adventures differs from other tours. Fam trips are planned in the next 12 months.
