G Adventures has announced it will host ‘travel’s biggest community tourism summit’, GX, later this year.

The multi-day, mega-event runs from September 22-28, 2023 in Peru.

Up to 400 people are expected to take part. They’ll be divided into groups which will each have their own dedicated itineraries, before coming together.

The event will culminate with the first World Community Tourism Summit, to be hosted on World Tourism Day, 27 September, featuring a line-up of inspiring speakers and entertainment, which will soon be announced.

GX will celebrate G Adventures’ belated 30th anniversary, which was postponed three years by the pandemic, as well as the 20th anniversary of Planeterra, its not-for-profit partner.

GX will be invitation-only, but 65 agents from across the globe have a chance to attend, through the 2023 Change Makers event, which will be hosted as part of GX.

G Adventures Founder Bruce Poon Tip (pictured with a member of the Ccaccaccollo Women’s Weaving Co-op, Sacred Valley, Peru) said: “We’ve thrown lots of great parties and events in our 33 years of operation, but this will be the biggest yet.

“There’s no better way to show our travel community first-hand how tourism has the power to drive positive change than through experience. We’ve been showcasing the beautiful concept of community tourism to our travellers for years, but wanted to open it up to the industry to experience as well.

“In true G Adventures style, we’re continuing to innovate with GX, which will be a groundbreaking event in travel – it really will be the first of its kind.”

The Change Makers agent incentive runs until 30 June 2023.
