A group of workers at Glasgow Airport has voted to strike next month, just after the start of the school summer holidays.

Around 95% of 70 trade union Unite members, employed OCS Group UK Limited, voted for industrial action after a pay offer was rejected.

The OCS Group workers aid passengers with reduced mobility issues, helping them with wheelchairs and vehicles at the airport.

The pay offer, which would have taken basic pay to £10.90 per hour, was described as a ‘poverty pay offer’ by Unite.

Unite has now confirmed two 24-hour walkouts on 6 July and 11 July. Both finish at 03:59 the following day. Schools in Glasgow close for the summer holidays today (23 June).

Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham said: “The emphatic mandate in support of strike action should send a clear message to OCS – it’s time they put an increased offer on the table in new negotiations.”

A Glasgow Airport spokesperson said: “Discussions between special assistance service provider OCS and Unite are ongoing.

“We are speaking with OCS to ensure contingency plans are in place so that those passengers who require additional support are not affected by any proposed industrial action.”
