The Greek National Tourism Organisation is planning a marketing campaign and fam trips to Rhodes to encourage visitors back to the island following the wildfires.

The plans are part of a wider initiative by the Greek Government, to ‘facilitate a speedy recovery’, including restoring road networks and public beaches and helping local businesses ‘get back on their feet’.

The GNTO said: “To showcase Rhodes’ untouched beauty and highlight its tourism attractions, press and familiarisation trips will be organised for influential media representatives and travel industry professionals.

“This will allow them to experience firsthand the island’s charm and share their positive experiences with the world.”

The GNTO also plans to ‘reignite co-advertising programs that were previously interrupted due to the wildfires’ with major tour operators and airlines to ‘bolster promotional efforts and attract tourists back to the island’.

No more details have been released so far.

“In addition to immediate measures, a long-term projection plan will be developed to ensure the sustainable growth and prosperity of Rhodes’ tourism sector.

“This plan will encompass conservation efforts, infrastructural developments, and community engagement to safeguard the island’s future,” the GNTO added.

Meanwhile, the UK Foreign Office has updated its advice to say the state of emergency implemented on 26 July because of the wildfires has now been lifted.
