The Greek Government is to evacuate foreigners from the island of Rhodes where thousands have been forced to flee from wildfires.
In an update to its travel advice issued on Saturday evening, the Foreign Office said the Greek Government has established a Crisis Management Unit to facilitate the evacuation.
The unit can be contacted on +30 210 368 1730. The British consular can be reached on +44 20 7008 5000 24/7, it said.
If British nationals are in immediate danger, they should call the Greek Emergency Services on 112, added the FCDO.
No further details about the evacuation were given.
In a tweet, TUI said it was contacting clients due to travel to the affected parts of Rhodes to rearrange their holidays.
It urged customers in Rhodes to ‘remain available via your mobile and check the TUI app’.
It added that it was taking care of guests and employees ‘as good as possible’.
However, as of 9.55pm on Saturday evening, Jet2 said Rhodes Airport was still open and it was still planning to operate flights on Sunday 23 July. It promised a further update at 9.30am on Sunday.
“If your hotel is in the affected area you will be contacted directly tomorrow morning,” it said in an update on its website.
Earlier today, hundreds of tourists were evacuated from at least two hotels in the south of the island, some of them on foot. They were told to head to the beach for safety.
