Greece has confirmed it is discussing providing a week’s free holiday to Rhodes to British tourists with tour operators, travel agents, hotels and airlines.

Those whose holidays were cut short due to the recent wildfires on the Greek island will be eligible for the free packages in spring and autumn next year.

The offer was first announced by Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, after which TUI confirmed it was’ working on the details’ with Greek Government.

Greece National Tourism Organisation UK and Ireland Director Eleni Skarveli said the Government has initiated ‘a series of discussions’ with stakeholders.

She added: “In collaboration with all stakeholders we are collecting data required to define the number of requirements of potential beneficiaries in order to inform them about the next steps until the end of August.

“The process will be facilitated by a digital tailormade platform for the claimants of the vacation package.”
