Passengers on a Royal Caribbean International cruise found out their Alaska sailing had been cancelled two days after boarding the ship.

Radiance of the Seas was to have departed Vancouver on Friday 26 April but technical difficulties meant passengers were able to board, but the ship spent two days in port undergoing repairs, Cruise Hive reports.

A revised itinerary had been due to depart on Sunday 28 April, with an adjusted route to Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan and along the Inside Passage, before returning on 3 May as originally planned.

However, passengers were told on Saturday the entire cruise had been cancelled while repairs continued and they would have to leave the ship the following day.

In a letter to passengers, Royal Caribbean said: “Despite our best efforts, circumstances beyond our control have delayed our sailing further. Your patience throughout this time [has] not gone unnoticed, and we are immensely grateful for your understanding.”

Passengers were given a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit for any Royal Caribbean sailing.

They also received complimentary internet and free bar until debarkation on Sunday 28 April, as well as help with change fees for airline reservations and hotel costs.

A spokesperson told Travel Gossip: Due to a technical issue, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the April 26 sailing. Guests will receive a full refund and 100% future cruise credit, and have been notified directly.
