Baggage workers at Heathrow Airport have announced they will strike over 13 separate days next month – including throughout the busy October half-term.

The Unite union confirmed 170 members employed by Vanderlande Industries, who conduct high-end maintenance and servicing of baggage carousels, will walk out.

The first strike will run between 5.30pm on 6 October and 6am on 9 October. After that, workers will strike for 10 consecutive days, starting at 5.30am on 20 October and finishing at 6am on 30 October, hitting the half-term holidays, which run from 23-27 October for many schools.

Unite warned the action would bring ‘travel disruption to Heathrow Airport this autumn’ and accused Vanderlande of making two ‘pitiful’ below-inflation pay offers that ‘have been roundly rejected by members’.

Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham, said: “Our members will have the full support of their union as they head to the picket line in their fight for a fair pay rise.”
