Heathrow has recorded its busiest December to date, with more than 6.6 million passengers travelling through last month.
The airport ended the year with a total of 79m passengers in 2023.
Its busiest day over the festive period was Friday 22 December, with almost 250,000 passing through the airport. On Christmas Day, 142,000 passengers travelled through, on 800 flights.
Transatlantic travel remained a key driver for passenger numbers, with 1.6 million travelling to and from North America in December. New York was the most popular destination during 2023, with over 3m passengers in total flying to JFK airport.
Terminal 3 had its busiest year to date in 2023, surpassing 33m passengers for the second time since opening 15 years ago and serving 2.6m passengers in December.
