Travel agent Kerry Elliott went to great lengths to boost her knowledge of Australia this week, travelling more than 200 miles each way and taking 34 hours out of her busy home life to attend a training event.

Kerry’s epic trip, from Essex to the Australia Takeover Roadshow, with Tourism Australia and Travel Gossip in Leeds, involved two taxis, four trains, two National Express coaches, one bus journey, one water taxi, an overnight in a hotel and a lift to and from her local train station from her husband.

Mum-of-three Kerry, 35, said: “I wanted to improve my knowledge of the destination and, as this was a special Travel Gossip roadshow focusing on Australia, I just had to get there.

“I’m so glad I did – I have learned so much.”

Kerry left her house in Ingatestone on Wednesday morning to get to the station at 8.45am for her train to London, then got on a National Express coach to Leeds.

After checking out of her hotel on Thursday morning, she hopped on another National Express coach at 12.30pm and got home at 6.45pm.

Kerry started her travel career in 2019, when she joined InteleTravel, initially working part-time alongside her job as a one-to-one Special Educational Needs worker.

After three months, she went full time.

She said: “Two of my children are on the autistic spectrum and my seven-year-old is home-schooled.

“It’s a busy life, but I enjoy being busy.

“I have a good handful of clients that I enjoy looking after and my list of customers is growing.

“I absolutely love the industry. Everyone has been phenomenally helpful and welcoming.”

Travel Gossip Managing Director Bruce Martin said: “Kerry’s tremendous effort to get up to Leeds to attend our Australia Takeover Roadshow with Tourism Australia shows great commitment.

“It’s brilliant to see agents going the extra mile – or in Kerry’s case, 200+ miles each way – to boost their knowledge.”

Tourism Australia UK Regional Manager Sally Cope said: “We were thrilled to meet Kerry from Travelling Dreams who travelled an impressive 200 miles from Essex to join over 50 agents and Aussie Specialists at the Australia Takeover Roadshow.

“Australia is one of the most desirable destinations in the world and the passion shown by agents who sell the destination is always extraordinary.

“With fresh inspiration and ideas on how to best sell Australia, we are excited to hear about the incredible Aussie adventures Kerry creates for her customers.

“Thank you for making the journey to join us, Kerry!”
