Tropical Storm Rafael is expected to make landfall in western Cuba on Wednesday as a category 1 or category 2 hurricane.
In an update to its travel advice, the Foreign Office said there is a risk of heavy rain, flash flooding and landslides.
It said this could exacerbate the ongoing power cuts, caused by Hurricane Oscar just weeks ago.
The Foreign Office urged travellers to ‘monitor local media for updates, and take precautions including conserving water, food and mobile phone charge’.
The capital Havana and the main tourist resort of Varadero lie on the northwest coast of Cuba.
