Iceland’s Blue Lagoon will remain closed today while the owners ‘reassess’ the situation.

The Blue Lagoon closed for a third time on 8 February as a precautionary measure following the eruption of a nearby volcano.

In a statement on its website, it said the eruption has now ceased, according to reports from the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

It added: “We have made the decision to extend the closure through Tuesday, February 13 at which time the situation will be reassessed.

“Further updates and information will be provided here as they become available.

“All guests with bookings during this temporary closure period will be contacted. Guests wishing to modify or cancel their bookings are kindly directed to use the my booking portal.”

It went on to say that it will ‘continue to closely follow the guidelines and recommendations of the authorities’ to ensure the safety and wellbeing of guests and staff.
