Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency appeal to support relief efforts in Northern Vietnam following Typhoon Yagi.

Yagi, the largest storm to hit the country in 30 years, made landfall on 7 September, causing flooding and landslides, killing more than 200 people and leaving thousands of families without food, shelter and electricity.

Vietnam is Intrepid’s most popular destination, and the operator employs 100 people there. The appeal is being run by its charity The Intrepid Foundation.

Intrepid General Manager for Vietnam Hanh Nguyen said: “As the events unfold, I am heartbroken to witness the immense devastation and suffering that some people, communities and villages are experiencing.

“This is a loss no one should ever have to bear, and I deeply urge everyone to join hands for the country we love.”

The Intrepid Foundation General Manager Biheng Zhang said: “Typhoon Yagi has been the largest storm to impact Vietnam in over 30 years.

“By supporting this appeal, the international travel community can directly contribute to the humanitarian relief efforts, supplying immediate needs to children and families across the 13 northern provinces.”
