Israel’s National Security Council has updated its travel advice to citizens, warning them to take extra safety precautions in the UK along with dozens of other countries.

Several countries in Western Europe, including the UK, have been given a Level 2 warning, or a ‘recommendation to exercise increased precaution’.

A Level 2 warning has also been extended to some countries in South America, Australia and Russia.

Israelis have been cautioned about a rise in antisemitic attacks and threats worldwide in the wake of the Israeli-Palestine War.

Citizens are advised to avoid non-essential travel to any listed Level 3 nations, which include South Africa, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The National Security Council statement read: “Since the beginning of the war there have been increased efforts identified from Iran and its affiliates, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, to target Israelis and Jews around the world.

“On this basis, along with the rising levels of incitement, attempted attacks and antisemitism around the world, the National Security Council has reiterated its recommendation for Israelis to reconsider any nonessential travel at this time,” it stated.

Most airlines have suspended flights between the UK and Israel, leaving El-Al as the only carrier operating non-stop services.

British Airways has suspended its services since 11 October, Virgin Atlantic has grounded all flights to and from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport until 13 December, and easyJet has also suspended its services.

The Foreign Office (FCDO) is advising against all but essential travel to Israel. It also recommends against all travel to Gaza, the West Bank and Israel’s borders with Lebanon and Syria.

Any visitors to Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories are advised to register with the FCDO for the latest safety updates.
