James Villas has announced it is no longer taking new bookings and will close before the end of 2023.
A statement on the company’s website, issued at 11am this morning (Monday 30 October) says: “James Villas is no longer taking new bookings, and will be closing down by the end of the year.
“All existing James Villas customers are being contacted this week about their bookings.”
The news comes just three weeks after the company announced it had appointed three people from its guest relations team to support the trade and strengthen agent partnerships, led by Trade Relations Manager Alison Burton.
The company’s statement added customers with bookings that return on or before 30 November 2023 will be unaffected and their bookings will go ahead as planned.
However, anyone returning on or after 1 December 2023 will have their bookings cancelled.
It added: “Customers with bookings due to commence on or after this date will be given a full refund, unless the property they have booked is also operated by a sister company, in which case the booking will be transferred, and new details will be provided ASAP. For any enquiries, please contact customersupport@jamesvillas.co.uk.”
The statement continued: “The entire James Villas team would like to thank each and every customer that has ever booked with us, it has been a pleasure being part of your holiday experiences for so many years.
“For new customers looking at future holiday options, we recommend NOVASOL, our sister company featuring properties all across Europe.”
Owner Awaze confirmed the closure, saying it wants to focus ‘on future growth of its core portfolio’.
In a statement, Awaze said: “Approximately 40 James Villas roles are at risk of redundancy as a result of the closure and those impacted are being consulted.
“Consultation will also take place regarding the proposed closure of the brand’s Maidstone office.”
Awaze CEO Henrik Kjellberg said: “Our focus at Awaze is to sell holiday homes that we manage exclusively on behalf of our owners.
“With our integration plans behind a common platform far advanced for our combined European inventory, we have decided to cease trading with James Villas as that model relied on guaranteed inventory.
“James Villas core inventory represents less than 1% of our total supply. We will work hard to ensure we minimise the impact on our employees, suppliers and customers. We remain committed to keep growing our supply base behind a model that is flexible and winning in the marketplace.”
