Visit Jersey’s Director and CEO Tricia Warwick is hoping the reboot of the popular TV show Bergerac will bring more tourists to the island when it airs next year.
The six-episode show was filmed in Jersey throughout August and will be shown on UKTV U&Drama channel in February 2025, with Brassic star Damien Molony taking on the role of Bergerac.
The original BBC show ran from 1981-1991 and resulted in a spike of visitors to the island, and Tricia hopes the reboot will do the same.
She said: “Bergerac is of course synonymous with Jersey and we had filming across the island. It’s going to be promoted in the lead up to Christmas and great for us as a destination, so we can’t wait.”
Tricia, who has been in the role for 18 months, added sports tourism is a also key focus for the island, and the South African National rugby team Springboks are currently training on the island ahead of international matches next month.
She added: “The vision, direction and the passion to put tourism back on the map is really there.
“ff you can get known for a few things then that’s a great way to gain interest – I said let’s chase TV and film, and this is what we have been doing.”
Talking about activity with the travel trade, Tricia said she is looking at ways to increase fam trips to the island with partners.
“I’d love to host a mega fam for agents to Jersey to really showcase the destination. I know the trade is really important and I want to continue to get their support behind us and shout about Jersey.
“We have up to 14 flights a day from the UK to Jersey. It’s often forgotten. We are not quite back to pre-COVID levels, but we now also want to attract a younger crowd as well as our legacy clients.”
