Jet2 has suspended flights to Catania on the island of Sicily until 4 August after the airport sustained severe damage in a fire last Sunday.

All flights and holidays have been cancelled, it said in a message to clients posted on its website.

It said: “Unfortunately the fire at Catania Airport has caused severe damage to the terminal buildings, significantly impacting operations.

“We have been working hard to make other arrangements so that you can travel on your well-deserved holidays, but despite these efforts we are now unfortunately left with no option but to withdraw and cancel all our flights to Catania until Thursday 3 August 2023 (inclusive).

Return flights that were due to operate from Catania until 25 July will leave from Trapani Airport on the west coast of the island, around a 3.5 hour drive from Catania in the east. Jet2 said clients had been informed by SMS and email.

Passengers who require assistance with rebooking have been advised to call 0800 408 0778 from 8.30am-8.30pm.
