A Jet2 flight from Turkey was forced to make an emergency landing in Bulgaria after a male passenger became irate when he heard the sound of a crisp packet popping.

The passenger was already distressed, according to a report on Airlive, telling others that he thought the crew on Flight LS124 from Bodrum to Glasgow were sending secret messages.

He believed that one crew member scratching her face during the safety demo was a message to her colleagues, and when two cabin lights went off he thought it was a signal to cabin crew to detonate a bomb or get out guns, said Airlive.

While crew were trying to calm the man, another passenger sitting nearby popped a package of crisps, causing him to panic and climb over several rows of seats towards the emergency exit.

He had to be restrained by crew and fellow passengers until the flight was able to land in Sofia, Bulgaria.

A Jet2 spokesperson told Airlive the man, who was travelling with his wife and children, was taken off the flight in Bulgaria.

A Jet2 spokesperson told the publication: “Flight LS124 from Bodrum to Glasgow diverted to Sofia Airport last night, so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded by police. After a short delay, the flight continued to Glasgow.”
