Jet2 will operate flights from three regional airports to Jerez in Andalucia next May, opening up one of Spain’s least-known coastal regions to British holidaymakers.
Jerez, an historic city renowned for flamenco and sherry production, is the closest gateway to the Costa de La Luz on the north Atlantic coast, where the biggest resort is Cadiz.
Weekly summer-only flights from Birmingham, Leeds Bradford and Manchester to Jerez will serve the resorts of Cadiz, Novo Sancti Petri, Conil de la Frontera, Costa Ballena, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Zahara de los Atunes.
From Faro, just over the Portuguese border, Jet2holidays will offer packages to four more resorts on the Costa de la Luz – Punta Umbria, Isla Canela, Isla Cristina and El Rompido – based on Jet2’s flights from 12 UK airports.
Despite boasting large sandy beaches, Costa de la Luz has attracted few British tourists since before the pandemic, although its resorts are popular with German and Belgian tourists.
Jet2 will be the first UK tour operator to fly into Jerez since the collapse of Thomas Cook in September 2019. Currently, the only direct flight to Jerez from the UK is Ryanair’s service from London Stansted.
Jet2’s flights from Birmingham will operate on Fridays from 2 May to 31 October; Leeds Bradford flights will operate on Tuesdays from 6 May to 28 October; and Manchester flights will operate on Saturdays from 3 May to 1 November.
