Jet2 bosses have thanked staffed for their ‘unstinting efforts’ so far this year, during which they’ve had to deal with wildfires in Rhodes and a meltdown of the UK’s Air Traffic Control, which left thousands of passengers stranded.

In an annual general meeting statement, the Jet2 Board revealed that the Rhodes fires and the ATC failure had cost the company £13m.

However, it said the group, which includes its airline and package holiday arm, is still expecting to make a pre-tax profit of between £480m and £520m for the year to the end of March 2024.

It said: “This guidance remains dependent on avoiding any material extraneous events in the balance of the year.”

Since the Rhodes fires and ATC failure, Jet2 has been forced to cancel flights to Skiathos due to severe flooding on the Greek island.

In the statement, the Board said: “Our Customer First proposition continues to be underpinned by a motivated team of Jet2 colleagues, whose purpose is to deliver outstanding service.

“This was fully demonstrated both during, and after, the significant disruption caused by the Rhodes and NATS [air traffic control] incidents as our UK operational and head office support team, combined with our overseas teams at destination airports and in resort, once again proved a real differentiator.

“As always, the Board would like to thank all our colleagues for their unstinting efforts during the year so far.”

The Board will provide a further trading update on the publication of its interim results on 23 November.
