Jet2 has refuted rumours it will make a ‘game changing’ big announcement tomorrow, as speculation mounts on social media that it’s going to start long-haul operations from Manchester.
Excitement has been growing since Saturday when FlightEmergency posted on X to tell its near 200,000 followers: “Hearing a few rumours coming from Jet2, big announcement on the 19th and if true, it’s a game changer.”
The post led to X users speculating about what the announcement could be, with many hoping Jet2 would be announcing long-haul flights.
“Jet2 flights to East Coast USA by any chance?” said one, while another said: “I have a very good feeling that this could be [an] order of A330s and long-haul expansion to Caribbean and USA.”
Interest was heightened on Monday, after Manchester Airport posted its own teaser – a photo of the airport with the wording ‘Announcement coming soon 19.09.2024’ on an information board.
This led to more speculation on social media, with one person posting: “Long haul Manchester putting 2 and 2 together???” and another saying “330 out of Manchester to take on Virgin.”
Another said the Manchester Airport teaser ‘lines up perfectly timewise with the rumoured big news coming out from Jet2’.
However, a Jet2 spokesperson told Travel Gossip: “There’s no truth to the speculation. We are not making a big announcement tomorrow.”
