Jet2 has commenced operations from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, with the airline’s first flight leaving for Tenerife at 8am this morning.

Four aircraft are now based at Liverpool, operating a summer programme to 20 destinations, including eight in Spain, five in Greece, three in Turkey, and two in Portugal.

Around 565,000 seats have been put on sale and the airline will operate 54 weekly flights, including 12 flights to both the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.

The programme includes seven exclusive summer routes from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays from the airport – to Gran Canaria, Menorca, Rhodes, Zante, Madeira, Paphos and Burgas.

When Jet2 announced last year that it planned to operate from Liverpool, agents welcomed the decision on Travel Gossip’s Facebook group, with several saying it was ‘great news’.

CEO Steve Heapy described the response to the new routes out of Liverpool as ‘nothing short of phenomenal’.

Jet2 said it plans to further expand its services from the airport for 2025, with additional aircraft at the base.
