The number of people finding new travel jobs fell to its lowest level in 16 months in April, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment.

Candidate placements in April dropped 41% on March’s figure – the lowest number since December 2021.

Compared to previous years, April’s placements were down 64% from April 2022 and 47% below April 2019.

After reaching a five-year high in March, the number of new candidates also dipped in April, down 38%. However, numbers were up 10% year-on-year.

Vacancies dipped to their lowest level since December, with the total number of vacancies in April down 49% on the previous month and down 61% year-on-year.

C&M Managing Director Barbara Kolosinska said many decision-makers took time off during Easter, which affected the figures.

She added May is looking more positive.

“After a historic year for travel recruitment, 2023 has had a much more mixed start, with placements and vacancies both increasing in two of the first four months of the year and falling in the other two,” Barbara said.

“With quality candidates still being in short supply, it is vitally important that we do all we can to entice talent to work in the industry by making our new job opportunities as exciting, well-paid and attractive as possible.”
