Los Angeles saw visitor numbers from the UK and Ireland increase by almost a quarter to 310,000 last year.

However, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board – which hosted the US Travel Association IPW trade show this week – said numbers were still 18% below 2019, when it welcomed 380,000 visitors from the UK and Ireland.

Overall, LA welcomed 5.8 million international visitors.

Los Angeles Tourism President & CEO Adam Burke said: “LA is one of the world’s most exciting, inclusive and ever-evolving destinations, and we are privileged to host IPW this year, a watershed moment for Los Angeles’ tourism industry.

“With sustained global interest in the City of Angels, and with more demand generators now than ever before, we are confident that LA will see the benefits of IPW for years to come.”

In other news from IPW, which was attended by more than 5,700 delegates from 70 countries, Massachusetts reported a 66% increase in international visitors for 2023 compared to 2022.

It also announced it will unveil and new logo and website, MA 250, ahead of the 250th anniversary of US independence in 2026, with content for both the trade and consumers.

‘MA 250’ will be the slogan for the state, whose marketing efforts will be themed around the history of America’s independence and revolution.

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development also has a new tagline – ‘Tennessee Sounds Perfect’ – and, as the Grand Ole Opry turns 100 next year it has promised a year-long celebration of artists.

For those into cycling, later this month Tennessee is launching a new initiative – Bike TN – to promote 52 road cycling routes for tourists to explore.

Washington DC is gearing up for a number of major events over the next two years, including World Pride in 2025, as well as the 250th anniversary of independence in 2026.

Next year, IPW will be held in Chicago from 20-24 May.
