Lastminute.com has left ABTA to join the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust (ABTOT).
The European OTA said it had chosen to join ABTOT from 1 July to ‘receive better value for our membership fees’.
ABTOT is a membership association that operates a regulated financial protection bonding scheme for travel organisers. It has more than 270 members.
A Lastminute.com spokesperson said: “We have recently made the decision to transition from our longstanding membership with ABTA to join ABTOT.
“This change allows us to continue providing our valued customers with the protection they have always enjoyed, while also ensuring that we receive better value for our membership fees.
“We believe that ABTOT offers a comprehensive range of benefits and services that align more closely with our business needs and priorities.
“Our primary focus is always to prioritise the protection and satisfaction of our customers, and we are confident that our new partnership with ABTOT will further enhance this commitment.”
Lastminute.com’s Swiss-registered holding company BravoNext is licensed to carry 607,726 passengers and is the ninth-largest ATOL holder.
BravoNext – trading as Lastminute.com – is now listed as an ABTOT member.
An ABTA spokesperson said: “ABTA’s membership is a broad church and companies value different services offering depending on their business model.
“ABTA remains by far the most recognised and trusted travel association brand, which is why our annual renewal rate is typically over 95%, even in a tough economic and competitive environment, and why we continue to welcome new members.
“While we are naturally disappointed if any member leaves the association, as a matter of policy we don’t comment on individual decisions.”
