Law firm Irwin Mitchell is investigating complaints from more than 130 holidaymakers who say they fell seriously ill at a five-star hotel in Turkey.
The list of complainants includes more than 50 children.
Irwin Mitchell said it has been instructed to investigate complaints of sickness, including diarrhoea, stomach cramps, sweats and vomiting, at the five-star Rixos Sungate resort in Antalya, Turkey, between March and June 2023.
The complainants include a Liverpool couple who travelled in May and had to cut short their honeymoon when they both fell ill, with one put on an intravenous drip.
Another complainant, from Manchester, said he, his wife and children fell ill during their stay in April. On return, he tested positive for the bacterial infection salmonella.
Irwin Mitchell said all the complainants had travelled with TUI.
International Serious Injury Lawyer Jatinder Paul said: “We’ve now been contacted by more than 130 people who have suffered serious gastric illness while holidaying at the Rixos Sungate in Turkey, which is very worrying.
“What’s deeply concerning is that many of those affected are children and there are several cases of salmonella which is particularly dangerous for the most vulnerable such as children and the elderly.”
TUI said: “We were very concerned to hear of a small number of cases at Rixos Sungate in Turkey, as the health and safety of our customers is our highest priority.
“As this is now a legal matter, we are unable to comment on specific cases.”
