Specialist cruise line Lindblad Expeditions has bought two ships from Celebrity Cruises.

The sale of 48-guest Celebrity Xpedition and 16-guest, eight-cabin catamaran Celebrity Xploration will be completed by January 2025 and the ships will undergo multi-million-dollar refits before joining the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet in the Galapagos Islands.

Bookings will open later this month, when the names of the two ships will be revealed.

Founder and CEO Sven-Olof Lindblad said: “We look forward to not only bringing more Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic guests to the islands with the growth of our fleet, but also to having a greater positive social impact supporting conservation, education and the creation of livelihoods.”

Celebrity said it remains committed to offering a Galapagos programme. A spokesperson said: “As we continue to optimize our fleet, we remain committed to the Galapagos Islands, offering sailings on Celebrity Flora and Silver Origin – two ships we’ve purposely built to sail in the archipelago year-round.”
