TV presenter Christine Lampard says Brits should use ‘old school’ travel agents to reduce the risk of being scammed online.

Christine was speaking to consumer affairs journalist Felicity Hannah on ITV’s Lorraine show on Wednesday (12 April).

Highlighting the dangers of online scammers, Felicity said there were cases of holidaymakers turning up at airports and discovering their flights had not been paid for or arriving in resorts and not having a hotel booked.

Christine said it was an ‘awful’ situation for anyone who discovered their booking didn’t exist before suggesting that Brits would increasingly use travel agents to book their holiday.

She said: “It just makes you think that you need to go back to the old school travel agent when you speak to someone in the office.

“Maybe that will come back again? Because [booking] online can be so risky for so many people. It can be a scary place.”

Felicity said people had to be conscious of scams ‘all the time’ because criminals devise scamming methods based on ‘what we’re thinking the most about’.

This week, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) said scammers were taking advantage of the ongoing Passport Office strike to trick people into making bogus passport applications.
