The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK & Ireland has welcomed the news that the Far East offers the best-value holidays for UK travellers.

The latest Post Office Long Haul Holiday Report 2023 revealed that seven of the 10 cheapest destinations are in the Pacific Asia region, including Vietnam’s Hoi An, which took the number one spot for the second year running, with prices down 19.2% on 2022.

Other Pacific Asia destinations on the best-value list include Bali (4, pictured above), Tokyo (5), Delhi (6), Phuket (7), Penang (9) and Colombo, Sri Lanka (10).

The Post Office report looked at the cost of common holiday items including water and a three-course meal for two, and compared them across 30 long-haul destinations to find out which offer the best value.

PATA UK & Ireland Chairman Chris Crampton said: “This is very encouraging for PATA and a message we are keen to share with our agent network.

“It is important they are aware of the value proposition the Far East offers for their clients. Value for money has never been more important as consumers continue to tighten their belts but still desire rewarding holidays.

“With decreasing prices in destinations, coupled with favourable exchange rates, travellers can really make the most of their pounds in the region. A win for budget conscious winter sun seekers.

“At a time when travellers are seeking value for money and a cheaper cost of living, we expect to see increased numbers of holidaymakers flocking to the Far East for a great value holiday.”

PATA’s hotel spokesperson and ONYX Hospitality Director of Global Sales Clare Goss added: “Travellers can enjoy luxury accommodation at a fraction of the cost compared to Europe and the USA. Coupled with the Far East’s renowned hospitality, it’s no surprise it’s a popular choice.”
