Malta-based Maleth Aero has confirmed that its contract to operate flights on behalf of P&O Cruises will end next month.
The one-class carrier told Travel Gossip the partnership will finish at the end of March.
P&O Cruises began using Maleth Aero last November to fly some passengers out from London Gatwick and Manchester to Antigua and Barbados, where they join its ships Britannia and Arvia. The cruise line also uses TUI.
However, many passengers have complained about the service from the Maltese airline, which – unlike TUI’s flights – doesn’t offer business class or inflight entertainment.
Passengers have also complained about long delays, with some threatening legal action against Maleth after they were forced to spend Christmas in Bermuda when their return flight hit turbulence and had to divert.
P&O Cruises President Paul Ludlow this week apologised in a social media post for the issues some customers have experienced. In the video, posted on X, he said: “I know that we’ve had some flight issues this season and for anyone who has been impacted by those, we are so sorry.
“We are delighted to be partnering again with TUI next season and we are also confirming our other airline partner and will update you as soon as possible.”
Agents have told Travel Gossip that customers are holding off booking Caribbean cruises with P&O until they know which airline it will be using.
A Maleth spokesperson told Travel Gossip today: “Our partnership with P&O will end at the end of March due to new operations that we will be running in the coming months.
“We are open to work with any operator that could request our services in the future.”
