A man accused of shooting dead female police officer Sharon Beshenivsky during a raid on a travel agency in 2005 has been charged with her murder.
Piran Ditta Khan, aged 74, was extradited from Pakistan and taken into custody at a West Yorkshire Police station yesterday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.
He is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court today.
PC Beshenivsky was killed during a robbery on Universal Express travel agency in Morley Street, Bradford, on 18 November 2005.
The 38-year-old mother of three children and two stepchildren, had only joined the police force nine months earlier.
Her colleague, PC Teresa Milburn was also seriously injured during the robbery but survived.
Khan has previously denied any wrongdoing, telling reporters in Pakistan: “I can’t really apologise because I haven’t done anything wrong.”
A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said that the charges against Khan were authorised in 2006, leading to the issuing of the extradition warrant.
He has also been charged with robbery, two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.
