Marella guests concerned as fridges are removed from cabins

At least one passenger has cancelled a cruise on TUI-brand Marella after being told fridges have been removed from cabins.

Fridges used to be provided in the more expensive cabins on Marella ships, from junior suites upwards.

However, Travel Gossip has seen unconfirmed reports on social media that fridges are gradually being removed from all cabins on all of its ships.

No-one seems to know why, with some passengers speculating that they’re too expensive to run and repair and others saying it’s a move by the cruise line to cut its gas emissions.

Some guests said they’d been told the fridges were being replaced with newer models, but one posted a message on Facebook, allegedly from Marella, stating that the cruise line was no longer providing fridges in cabins.

This has caused concern for some guests, especially those travelling with insulin, which needs to be kept cool, and those with babies and toddlers who want to store milk and baby food.

One guest was told that fridges could be requested via Marella Cruise Control if needed for medical reasons, but they were told they could not be guaranteed. Instead, medicine can be stored in fridges at reception.

One guest who depends on insulin posted on Facebook to say she’d switched her planned Christmas cruise to a land-based holiday with TUI instead when she found out she might not be able to store insulin in her room. In future, she said, she would travel with P&O Cruises instead.

Travel Gossip has approached Marella for a comment.
