Marella Cruises has announced it will homeport Marella Explorer 2 in the Dominican Republic at the end of 2024.

The ship will be based at La Romana from 24 December 2024 for a series of winter sailings, which go on sale on 20 July and which are scheduled to operate until mid-February 2025.

The last time the ship was in the Dom Rep was winter 2017.

The new homeport will offer adult-only sailings on three Caribbean itineraries, one of which includes a new port of call for Marella Explorer – Samana, in the north-east of Dominican Republic.

Prices start at £1,799 and cruise itineraries can be combined with a stay at a TUI property in the Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, Marella is introducing two new shorter sailings in the Mediterranean, from 2 December 2024.

A four-night sailing on the The Canarian Escape 1 itinerary, departs Malaga on Marella Explorer and visits Gibraltar and Casablanca in Morocco, with one sea day.

The Spanish Getaway itinerary, meanwhile, will take place on Marella’s latest ship, Marella Voyager and depart Palma in Majorca, visiting Alicante, Almeria and Malaga.

Other new shorter winter itineraries include six-night sailings from Marmaris in Turkey, Corfu Town and Malaga in Spain.
