The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Mexico as Hurricane Hilary heads towards the country’s Pacific Coast.

The FCDO’s latest advice said: “Hurricane Hilary is expected to continue moving north along Mexico’s Pacific Coast on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August, before dissipating.

“The US National Hurricane Center has put in place a tropical storm warning for the south coast of Baja California.

“We expect further warnings to be put in place as the storm approaches land.

“Strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected and there is a high risk of flooding, coastal storm surges, and mudslides.

“You should closely monitor local and international weather updates from the US National Hurricane Center and follow the advice of local authorities and your tour operator including any evacuation orders.

“In the aftermath of a hurricane, there can be flooding, high winds and continued rainfall. See the tropical cyclones page for further advice on what to expect in the aftermath of a hurricane.”
