Monarch Airlines relaunch ‘postponed indefinitely’

Plans to relaunch Monarch Airlines have allegedly stalled, which has left the industry questioning whether there was ever a genuine plan to bring back the historic brand.

A message posted on a website set up to promote the relaunch of the company, which collapsed in 2017, said plans had been postponed due to a lack of available funds.

The message, allegedly from the company’s new board, said that it had burned through its start-up capital faster than anticipated since acquiring the brand two weeks ago.

It added that while it is continuing to look for alternative investment, it said ‘there is no practical option to move forward in the immediate future’.

The Board had initially announced plans to launch an online travel agent this year ahead of the relaunch of Monarch flights in 2024.

However, a representative for the company told Travel Gossip on Thursday that the relaunch had been ‘postponed indefinitely’ but added: “We are still attempting to hold negotiations in the background.”

Since then, the representative’s email has been shut down and reports have emerged online that question whether there were ever any plans to relaunch Monarch.

This piece by blog site Head for Points sums up the bizarre saga so far.
