A one-day strike by Lufthansa ground staff in Germany could affect 80% to 90% of the carrier’s flights, hitting more than 100,000 passengers.

The strike by members of the Verdi union is due to start at 4am tomorrow (7 Feb) and last until 7.10am on Thursday (8 Feb).

Germany’s busiest airports, including Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich, will be impacted.

Verdi said in a statement that it expected the strike to lead to ‘major cancellations and delays’.

The industrial action follows a strike by security staff at German airports, which grounded hundreds of flights last week.

However, Lufthansa is continuing to negotiate with Verdi, which is pushing for higher pay and better working conditions for 25,000 ground staff.
