MSC Cruises has cancelled a Grand Voyage on MSC Euribia because of Red Sea safety concerns.

The ship had been due to depart on 19 October from Kiel, Germany on one of its immersive Grand Voyages, sailing through Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, before transiting the Suez Canal to Dubai.

Cruise Hive reports an email has been sent to the trade saying: “Considering the risks of sailing in the Red Sea due to continuous attacks on ships, we were forced to cancel MSC Euribia’s Grand Voyage from Northern Europe to the United Arab Emirates.

The safety and well-being of guests is our priority and, unfortunately, there is no viable alternative route for this trip.”

MSC Euribia is still scheduled to carry out itineraries from Dubai and Doha from 16 November and it’s understood it will sail round Africa to get there.

Affected passengers can transfer to another Grand Voyage on MSC Euribia or another ship at no extra cost to the cruise fare, although flights may incur a cost difference. They can also move their booking to another scheduled sailing, or get a full refund.

MSC has asked guests to decide by Friday 26 April.

MSC Euribia is MSC’s newest ship, which launched in June last year.
