Passengers on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun were reportedly left in the dark and without air conditioning after the ship experienced a power outage this week.

The 1,936-passenger ship was hit by ‘electrical difficulties’ on Monday 24 April, while docked in Cartagena, Colombia, after it began a 20-day itinerary on 21 April from Miami to Seattle via the Panama Canal, Cruisehive reports.

The ship’s captain told passengers that the stay in Cartagena would be extended due to ‘electrical difficulties’ which meant that some amenities had gone ‘offline’.

According to Cruisehive, Captain Maksym Kyselov said: “We are committed to delivering exceptional guest experiences at sea, however, at times, unexpected circumstances may arise.

“Earlier today, we experienced electrical difficulties, which resulted in some amenities going offline.

“Since then, services have begun to return. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The power outage on Monday forced the line to close dining venues and passengers were offered a buffet for dinner instead.

It remains unclear how the extended stay in Cartagena will affect the rest of the itinerary.

Marine traffic website Cruisemapper shows the ship has now left the Colombian port and is heading towards the Panama Canal.
