A new European Sleeper service between Brussels and Venice, with stops in the Austrian Alps, will launch next February.

The twice-weekly service will connect with Eurostar trains between London and Brussels, offering skiers heading to Austrian and Italian resorts an alternative to air travel.

The night train will operate throughout February and March 2025, stopping in Antwerp, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Cologne, Munich, Innsbruck, Bolzano, Verona and Venice.

The total journey will take around 20 hours, and prices have yet to be announced.

European Sleeper, a private train company, already runs overnight trains from Brussels and Amsterdam to Prague and Berlin.

It said the new service, due to launch on 5 February, will operate during the school winter half-term holiday and the Venice Carnival.

Co-founder Chris Engelsman said: “Passengers will be able to board our train from Belgium and the Netherlands, and relax in the comfort of the restaurant car.

“The train will transport them through Germany and Austria, and across the Alps, ending in the historic cities of Verona and Venice the following day.”

Each train will carry about 750 passengers in sleeper compartments.
