Passengers travelling to Portugal this weekend have been warned they are likely to face delays and cancellations because of a strike by airport ground handlers.

The Portuguese Transport Workers’ Union (STTAMP) has said members who work for SPdH Portuguese Handling Services will strike at national airports from ‘00:00 on 31 August until midnight on 1 September 2024’.

It warned disruption is expected to be ‘significant’, particularly at Lisbon (pictured) and Porto and passengers have been advised to contact their airlines for the latest information.

STTAMP said it regretted the strike, which it said would cause ‘severe constraints’ and numerous flight cancellations’ but said it had ‘tried in every way to find solutions with the company that would avoid this outcome’.
