Astronomy tours specialist Omega Breaks has organised a 16-day holiday to see the solar eclipse in the Arctic in August 2026.

The trip includes 13 nights on Ambassador Cruise Line’s ship Ambition, which will sail to the south coast of Greenland, in the path of ‘totality’, close to the centre line of the eclipse shadow track, where it is expected to offer the longest duration of totality at more than two minutes.

On the cruise will be astronomer, astrophotographer and Sky at Night presenter, Pete Lawrence and Omega Breaks customers will be able to have some exclusive events during the cruise that are not available to other passengers.

This includes a cocktail party, a dinner with Pete and his team one evening, and special presentations on past eclipses and the Aurora Borealis.

The cruise sets sail from Dundee for Runavik in the Faroe Islands before heading towards Greenland for the day of the eclipse. After that, the ship will sail to Iceland, spending several days visiting Reykjavik, Grundarfjordur and Seydisfjordur before heading back, via Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, to Dundee.

Omega Breaks has created two packages, with early booking discounts available until 4 December.

The 16-day option departs on 7 August 2026, including flights to Glasgow from regional airports and an overnight stay in the city, with coach transfers to and from Dundee. Prices start from £3,999 per person.

Customers who prefer not to fly can either make their own way to Dundee to join the cruise or book complimentary coach travel from 10 pick-up points. Prices for this 14-day trip start at £2,999pp, departing 8 August 2026.

The package includes 13 nights on Ambition, with the Ambassador Expedition (Premium) drinks package worth over £500pp.

Omega Breaks Trade Sales Manager Claire Dutton said:“This is a really exciting new product and the first time we’ve offered an eclipse viewing from the deck of a cruise ship!

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Ambassador Cruise Line who are a great fit with our customer demographic. We are delighted to be delivering the astronomy element to this cruise, utilising our years of expertise in delivering specialist holidays in this field.

“We have some great early bird pricing and lots is included within our packages so now is the time for agents to get marketing this unique cruise which combines this spectacular event with the chance to see other natural wonders in that part of the world.”
