A woman who was sailing on Carnival Conquest when a man went missing has slammed the cruise line for not alerting passengers to his disappearance.

Jenn Lyles said she only found out that 26-year-old Kevin McGrath had disappeared from a news channel after she returned home.

Posting a video on TikTok, which has been seen more than 688k times, she said that instead of receiving information about the missing man, she was emailed a survey asking her to rate her cruise.

“How about an email that says hey, there’s a guy missing, did you see him, he wasn’t seen past 2am, he never showed up to meet his family for breakfast, this is his photo?” she asked in her video.

“I found out he was missing on the news. Is this what happens when you go missing on a cruise ship? They are not even going to alert the other passengers who might have seen something? My friends have been in contact with the family members and when they post the ‘Missing’ poster on the carnival Facebook page it gets pulled down, this is not ok.”

Kevin McGrath went missing on 4 September. He was last seen in his cabin by his brother at 2am and was supposed to meet his family for breakfast before the ship docked at Port Miami but he never showed up, according to authorities, and a missing persons report was filed before 7am.

In a statement to the Independent, said: “On the morning of Sept. 4, a guest reported a family member missing after Carnival Conquest had returned to PortMiami and guests were already disembarking from the ship. Local law enforcement is in charge of the investigation and our team members have fully cooperated with officials,” the statement read.

“We’re not sure what the survey sent to guests has to do with this as it is a routine post-cruise communication. If the guest in the TikTok video had information to share, she should have contacted us or Miami Dade Police, but as her comments suggest, she does not have anything to contribute to the investigation.”

Carnival said Kevin was not detected by surveillance systems, including US Customs and Border Patrol during the debarkation process and a search of the ship’s cameras and security devices didn’t indicate that he went overboard.

A full search of the ship was carried out following his disappearance and the Coast Guard searched around the PortofMiami and along the South Florida shore.
