Airlines and airports have been updating travellers following flight disruptions and cancellations caused by Storm Isha.
Gusts of up to 99mph were reported and the weather forced cancellations, diversions and delays, on Sunday and overnight, causing some flights to re-route to other airports. Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast were among airports affected.
Schedules are gradually returning to normal today, but travellers are being warned to check before they travel.
EasyJet said most of its programme is operating normally today (Monday), although there is a knock-on impact because a number of aircraft are out of position.
It said: “We are doing all possible to minimise the impact on our customers, providing those on cancelled flights with options to rebook or receive a refund, as well as hotel accommodation and meals where required.”
British Airways apologised to passengers whose domestic and European flights were disrupted and said that, where possible, it is using larger aircraft and has brought in extra staff to help today.
BA said: “We’ve apologised to our customers for the disruption to their travel plans and our teams are working hard to get them on their way as quickly as possible.”
Jet2.com said it is planning to operate all flights on time today. Ryanair said it will notify passengers of any further delays or cancellations and told customers to check its app for the latest information.
A spokesperson for London Gatwick said 22 flights were diverted yesterday, but flights are mostly back to normal this morning. It is advising passengers to ‘check with their airline’ before travelling.
A Heathrow Airport spokesperson said: “Operations are returning to normal today as weather restrictions are lifted across the UK. The airfield teams reported a good start up this morning.”
A spokesperson for Manchester Airport told Travel Gossip: “We did see some diverted flights leaving Manchester and some diverted to Manchester because of conditions at other airports, particularly Dublin.”
Brittany Ferries has cancelled a number of services to France from Portsmouth. The operator said it will contact passengers by SMS or email to let them know their options.
It added: “Our telephone lines may be busy, please be patient and only call if your query is urgent. Cancelling a sailing is a decision we do not take lightly and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
P&O Ferries said: Our services are mostly operating to schedule however there may be disruption throughout the day due to adverse weather. We will continue to keep our feeds updated.”
A yellow weather warning remains in place until midday today across the UK, while strong wind warnings are in place for the north of the England and Scotland on Tuesday and Wednesday.
