Pontins has suddenly closed two of its holiday parks, leaving customers with booked holidays they can’t take.

A message on its website says its parks in Camber Sands in Sussex and Prestatyn in Denbighshire, north Wales have closed ‘with immediate effect’.

It added: “Customers whose bookings will be affected by these closures will be contacted by our team and refunded.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies told the BBC the closure of the Wales site was ‘unexpected’ and said he was asking for further information from owners Britannia Hotels.

It was announced in 2021 that the Government was looking at using two Pontins’ sites to house refugees, but this has not been confirmed.

In January this year, Pontins announced it was closing its site Brean Sands resort in Somerset, which has been taken over by energy firm EDF for three years to accommodate workers at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station.

The closures leave Pontins with just three parks: Pakefield Holiday Village in Norfolk, Southport Holiday Park in Merseyside and Sand Bay Holiday Village in Somerset.
